On October 21, 1942, Judith Susan Scheindlin, better known as “Judge Judy,” was born in Brooklyn, New York. Judy was born into a Jewish family with roots in Germany, Russia, and Ukraine.
Her parents were both German Jews. Scheindlin graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a government concentration.
She obtained her Juris Doctor in 1965 after completing her schooling at New York Law School.
Career
In 1965, Judith Sheindlin joined a cosmetic company as a corporate lawyer and began work there. However, Sheindlin resigned after two years as a business lawyer.
In a family court, she subsequently relaunched her legal career in 1972.
She served as a criminal court judge in the Bronx family court division for a few years until New York Mayor Edward Koch appointed her to the position in 1982.
