A man loses his wife and baby girl during the Penampang landslide.
Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year old man was killed along with his wife and daughter of eight months in a landslide in the Forest Hill construction quarters in Penampang on Wednesday (Sept 15).
The victim, Zul Azmil Omar, was at work at the time of the incident.
Before that, Sabah Fire and Rescue Department said that Zul’s wife, Salmah Hamid, and a 5-year-old girl, Rosatima Asbirin, were among the first two deaths reported in the flash floods and landslides.
Landslide in Penampang
Meanwhile, a vast landslide was observed at Penampang as well as Kota Kinabalu districts.
They discovered in the following days that the couple’s eight-month-old baby girl, who was called Dayana, was also killed.
“The most recent time I saw my wife was just before I went to job. The next thing I knew was that someone called me at 3.40 pm warning me about the landslide.
“It took me a while to reach home due to flooded roads, and I learned about their deaths when I arrived,” said the father and husband in grief.
Three other victims of the landslides have been saved. Meanwhile, Kota Kinabalu district police deputy chief George Abd Rakman confirmed the deaths of three people.
