Man robs truck and leads police on a low-speed chase as beer spills onto the street

A Rhode Island man who is suspected of trying to rob a delivery truck parked outside a Providence business faced a judge on Tuesday.

Police say Cranston’s Jeremy Fellela jumped into the truck, which appeared to be delivering beer bottles and kegs to a liquor store. He then drove off, leading to a slow-speed chase Monday afternoon, police say.

A WPRI photojournalist captured video of the incident, during which the truck’s tailgate was open and the ramp lowered, causing bottles and barrels to spill onto the street.

Parts of the chase were also captured by a resident’s doorbell camera, which shows the truck slowly driving police down the street.

The suspect eventually crashed into a utility pole after approximately two miles.

Fellela, 44, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, eluding police, reckless driving and refusing to submit to a chemical test. He was ordered to be held without bail after his arraignment because Fellela failed to appear during five of his 11 previous criminal cases.
