Prime Minister Modi offers prayers at Kedarnath Temple and presents the statue of Adi Shankaracharya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at Kedarnath Temple on Friday and unveiled a magnificent 12-foot statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya weighing 35 tons, whose work had begun in 2019. This is Modi’s fifth visit to the temple as Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister arrived in Dehradun early in the morning, where he was received by the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (Retd) and the Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Among a series of projects, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the rebuilt Shankaracharya samadhi damaged in the 2013 flood near the Mandakini River, a tributary of the Ganges in the state’s Rudraprayag district. Adi Guru Shankaracharya, the eighth-century seer, had reached Moksha at Kedarnath.

The event will be broadcast live on the 12 jyotirlingas, Shankaracharya’s four stray dogs (monasteries), their birthplace, and several prominent temples across the country.

PM Modi is also slated to lay the foundation stone for Kedarpuri reconstruction projects worth more than 400 million rupees. The rebuilding of Kedarpuri is also considered the Prime Minister’s dream project, the progress of which is personally reviewed by him at regular intervals.

Before Modi’s visit, Dhami, who along with his cabinet colleagues, reviewed the preparations at the temple and said that all the arrangements are in place and that Kedarpuri is dressed to welcome Modi.

“The vision of the Prime Minister is to develop Devbhoomi as the spiritual and cultural capital of the world where people from all over the world come for peace,” said Dhami.

The redevelopment of Kedarnath on such a large scale is a step towards implementing that vision. It is a proud moment for us. The prime minister has done things in Kedarnath that no one thought of doing for hundreds of years, ”he said, adding that the prime minister’s faith in Baba Kedar is absolute.

Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, along with Garhwal Commissioner Ravinath Raman, visited Kedarnath on Thursday for an on-site assessment of the arrangements.

Thursday, PM Modi addressed the soldiers on Diwali in the Nowshera sector in the Rajouri border district of Jammu and Kashmir. This was the prime minister’s second Diwali with the troops in the Rajouri district; In 2019.
