2. Type and search for emojis with a keyboard
Instant messaging feels incomplete without emojis. But it takes forever to switch from keyboard to mouse, clicking the emoji icon next to the text box, and then finding the right emoji. There is a faster WhatsApp web hack for keyboard warriors.
While in the normal text box, type a colon (Shift +;/: Key) followed by the first two letters of the emotion you want to express. You will receive a notice of matching emojis that change with each letter you type.

3. Automatic change from emoticons to emojis (or not)
![]()
Some emojis don’t need the colon and type trick above because one of the best features of WhatsApp Web is to automatically convert them from classic text emoticons. A useful Redditor extracted the full list of automatically converted emoticons, shown above.
Again, learning these WhatsApp keyboard shortcuts will make typing much faster if you practice them regularly.
That said, this automatic conversion can be annoying for some people, so there is an easy solution to keep them as emoticons. All you need is a user script called WhatsApp Emoticon Preserver.
- Install on pc Tampermonkey, a cross-platform script manager, in your browser of choice.
- Go WhatsApp Emoticon Preserver.
- Click blue Install on the pc button.
- Update the WhatsApp Web tab in your browser.
Note that this will display emoticon characters on your screen, but the recipient will still see them as emojis.
4. Use multiple WhatsApp accounts on the same PC

Some people have two phones with separate WhatsApp accounts, or maybe you use a dual SIM phone with multiple WhatsApp apps. If you want to run two WhatsApp web accounts on your computer, you can’t open two tabs in Chrome and log in separately.
The best WhatsApp web trick to use multiple accounts is to open an incognito window or a different browser. So if you have an account started in Chrome, start a new window in incognito mode, or start a second browser and go to WhatsApp Web through it. Log in as you normally would, using your other account to read the QR code.
In incognito mode, you can use WhatsApp Web for an hour before you automatically log out.
5. Read messages without blue mark notifications

As long as those blue marks are enabled, people can see the exact time that they read your text. You can disable read receipts on your phone if you want to disable this, but there is a good WhatsApp web trick to fix it.
If you are talking to someone on WhatsApp and want to read their messages without receiving a read receipt, this is what you should do:
- Open the chat in the WhatsApp web window.
- Open a Notepad file (or any other window) and resize it so you can see the entire WhatsApp Web chat in the background.
- Click on the Notepad file and hold the cursor there. This is the critical step since the computer believes it is working in a different window.
- Messages will be uploaded to the chat window in the background, which you can view without being marked as read with the blue marks. At this time, they will be gray double marks, which means that messages are received by you, but not read.
- When you agree to mark them read, click on the WhatsApp web chat window and those marks will instantly turn blue.
The limitation of this method is that you can only read the content of one chat at a time. But how often do you really need to use this WhatsApp web hack?
6. Get the WAToolkit extension for message previews

In WAToolkit, Chrome users have an excellent extension to add additional functions to WhatsApp Web. It adds two great tricks to WhatsApp Web’s built-in features, including one that lets you re-read conversations without activating Read Receipt.
- Background notifications: When you receive a new message on WhatsApp, you no longer need to switch to the WhatsApp Web tab to read it. The WAToolkit icon badge shows how many unread messages you have. Hover over the icon and you can preview messages without registering them as read in your main chat.
- Full-width chat bubbles: By default, WhatsApp does not spread a person’s chat bubble across the entire width of the chat window. That’s why you get multi-line text when it fits easily on a single line in your large desktop window. WAToolkit solves this by changing the text bubbles to full width.
Remember, you can also use Google Chrome extensions in Opera and other browsers.

7. Enable dark mode for WhatsApp web

Dark Mode is a hidden feature of WhatsApp Web that the company has not yet released to the public. You’ll find online articles on how to change the code in a browser tab to enable Dark Mode, and it’s not too difficult, but it may seem daunting to some.
But the easiest way is to download the Dark WhatsApp web extension. It’s a neat WhatsApp web shortcut to implement exactly what the code changes cause, but without all that hassle. With a single click, you can enable and disable Dark Mode on WhatsApp Web.
