New Delhi: A petition has been filed with the Supreme Court seeking direction for the Center to end the memoranda of understanding signed with the Chinese government and Chinese companies, and also order the Center to make public its trade policies with China, in the context of a confrontation between armies of two nations in Ladakh.
The plea, submitted by Jammu-based lawyer Supriya Pandita, argued that Indian and Chinese troops have been involved in the confrontation since early May at various points along the Current Control Line (LAC), and the June 15, and escalated incident area occurred. throughout LAC, which left many casualties on both sides.
The petitioner claimed that protesters across the country were seen burning Chinese flags and products, while videos on social media showed teenagers destroying their Chinese-made mobile phones.
“In the midst of these protests, according to media reports, Gujarat and Maharashtra have signed memoranda of understanding with China-based business conglomerates. Maharashtra signed some memoranda of understanding with some Chinese companies to establish an industry in the state. In another incident according to media reports, the conglomerate Adani Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with one of the largest private companies in China to invest $ 300 million in manufacturing units at the Indian port, “the statement said.
Citing the Center’s decision on June 29 to ban 59 mobile applications from China-based companies for national security concerns, the allegation said: “While the ban on these mobile applications may be a welcome step, but on the other hand, it allows some select business houses or few selected state governments to enter into memoranda of understanding with Chinese trading companies or Chinese stakeholders to send the wrong message to the people of India. ”
The petitioner stated that this preferential treatment of these few selected businesses or a few selected states to celebrate memoranda of understanding with Chinese businesses is not only discriminatory but also against the will and feelings of the Indians.
“The memorandum of understanding signed by the Respondent (Union of India) with its counterpart or government of China for trade and business goes against the will of the Prime Minister, the Indian policy of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, and against the will and feelings of the people of India, amid the growing tensions on the border between the two countries, which has led to the martyrdom of many soldiers, “the allegation said.
A total of 20 Indian soldiers died in a violent confrontation between two armies in the Galwan Valley. The Chinese side also suffered casualties during this incident, but have not yet provided details.
