During his two-day visit to Assam, Home Minister Amit Shah remained silent on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
According to Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who also revealed the proposal to implement CAA in West Bengal.
He said BJP leaders are ‘using’ the CAA as a carrot on a stick. “The CAA is a political instrument, and we must not fall into this trap,” Mr. Banerjee said at a public forum in Kolkata.
The General Secretary of the TMC said that the Home Minister’s interpretation of the CAA in West Bengal and Assam differed.
“This is a reflection of the BJP-led government’s approach to politics. This problem is being used as a ‘Jumla.’ The Citizenship Amendment Bill was enacted by the Lok Sabha in 2019 and became the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) within a month. A new Act’s regulations generally take 3-4 months to develop, but it’s been more than two and a half years, and the center has requested six extensions but is still unable to form the CAA’s rules, “TMC’s chief said.

He also said that his party would continue to fight the CAA, which he described as “draconian.”
“We oppose this brutal measure. ACCORDING TO AMIT SHAH, the CAA would be enforced when the COVID-19 pandemic has passed in West Bengal. He is silent on the subject in Assam. The Union Home Minister’s hypocrisy has finally been exposed. How can those who voted you (BJP) into power be considered illegal? The NRC list in Assam was compiled after spending 1600 crore, and roughly 19 lakh persons were omitted from the list. It’s a messed-up list, “he added.
Mr. Banerjee responded to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s allegation that the West Bengal administration is not helping the Centre combat infiltration by saying that the Home Ministry should protect its borders.
“The Border Security Force, which is part of the Home Ministry, is in charge. I’d be grateful if they could provide any information on the Bengal government’s lack of assistance, “Mr. Banerjee said.
“Some individuals believe Hindus are in danger, while others believe Muslims are. But, if you remove your communist glasses, you would realize that India is in peril, “he continued.
The TMC representative added that in the next assembly elections in Tripura and Meghalaya, the party would take on the BJP head-on in both states.
“We have established ourselves as the main opposition in Meghalaya. We have also found a unit in Tripura, where we have fought local body elections to our best capacity. When we go to the polls next year, TC will use all of its resources to defeat the despotic forces. We are not in Assam to take anyone’s position. We shall visit every person with our vision for the state’s development and ensure that TMC philosophy reaches every person. He vowed, we will do all we can to remove Assam’s corrupt BJP administration from power, “he promised.
On Wednesday, the TMC General Secretary visited the famous Kamakhya temple and prayed to Goddess Kamakhya. He also spoke at an ITA Machkhowa workers’ gathering and inaugurated the party’s Assam unit office.
