Android unknowingly grabs information from your phone every 5 minutes
Information technology companies around the world have been accused of collecting information without permission. One such serious claim is made in a report. Where mentioned, Android and iOS (iPhone’s operating system) are collecting different types of information from your phone every 5 minutes. And they’re being passed on to Google and Apple.
Douglas Leth, a researcher at Trinity College’s School of Computer Science and Statistics in Ireland, has published a paper on this ‘theft’ of information. Google and Apple take this information from mobile phones almost every 4 and a half minutes. And data is taken even if the phone is left unused.
The two operators collect the phone’s IMEI, hardware serial number, SIM serial number, and IMSI, handset phone number. Email addresses and even payment card information are collected. However, this list does not stop here. It is also collected when the SIM card is being inserted in the phone. Information is also collected whenever the location is turned on or off. Not only this, the information about the geographical location of the user is collected from the IP address of the phone.
Google Chrome, YouTube, Google Docs, SafetyHub, Google Messenger research claims. The study claims that the iPhone collects data from Siri, Safari and iCloud. And the phone user has virtually no hand in not giving this information. And in some cases, 20 times more data is collected from the iPhone than the Android phone.
However, Google and Apple have raised questions about the method of this research. At the same time, the amount of information that has been claimed in the research, the amount of data that is claimed to be not right, has been claimed by Android. Apple has again claimed that users’ information is controlled by them.
