Bishnoi Steals The Show

Ravi Bishnoi’s 2 wicket haul was supported by a string of quality shots from Rohit Sharma (40) and Suryakumar Yadav (34*) as India beat West Indies by six wickets in the opening T20I in the series of three matches at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

This victory means India has taken a 1-0 advantage in the series, which is three games long.

It is expected that the next T20I will take place on Friday at the exact location.

In pursuit of 158 runs, India got off to a rapid start after opening batters Rohit Sharma, and Ishan Kishan racked up an impressive 58 runs within 6 overs in the initial six.

The opening stand of 64 runs ended at the end of the 8th over when Roston Chase took advantage of Rohit (40).

Chase took a further wicket during the 12th over when he smashed Kishan (35) while India fell to 93/2 and was required to score 65 runs to victory.

In the next over, India received an injury to the body when Fabien Allen could get Virat Kohli (17) trapped at the bat of captain Kieron Pollard at long-off.

There were two new batters in the crease, Rishabh Pant, and Suryakumar Yadav.

Pant (8) did not succeed with the bat and was removed at the hands of Sheldon Cottrell, and India was reduced to 114/4 by the 15th in.

In the final, Suryakumar (34*) and Venkatesh Iyer (24*) ensured India achieved a six-wicket win with seven balls remaining.

Nicholas Pooran starred with his bat in the previous game when he scored an innings of 61 runs, which helped West Indies post 157/7.

Batting first, West Indies got off with a shaky start when they were beaten by Brandon King (4) on the fifth ball of the innings.

Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran were the next to score briskly, and after the powerplay overs, West Indies’ score was 44/1.

Yuzvendra Chahal broke the stand of 47 runs for two wickets after having Kyle Mayers (31) declared leg-before-spine in the seventh over.

Ravi Bishnoi got his maiden T20I wicket in the 11th innings after the batsman had Roston Chase (4) declared leg-before-wicket.

The identical over Bishnoi took out Rovman Powell (2), and the hosts fell to 74/4.

Nicholas Pooran kept on holding one end, and the hosts were hoping to score a big win in the last overs.

In the last four overs, West Indies managed to add 49 more runs to their total.

In the end, the team of the Caribbean recorded a score of more than 150 runs.

Pooran got a dismissal from Harshal Patel, but not until the left-hander had played an innings of 61.

Kieron Pollard (24*) continued to be unbeaten for the hosts.
