BJP appoints Madan Kaushik its Uttarakhand unit chief

On Friday, the BJP appointed the MLA Madan Kaushik as president of the state of Uttarakhand, replacing Banshidhar Bhagat, who could be appointed a minister in the government headed by Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat.

Kaushik is a fourth-term MLA from the Haridwar constituency, and is one of the party’s top lawmakers in the mountainous state.

With the party sticking to its choice of a Rajput prime minister in the state, it has again opted for a face-to-face Brahmin to head the organization there.

The Rajputs and the Brahmins are the two most populous castes in Uttarakhand, who will go to the polls early next year.

Tirath Singh Rawat was sworn in as prime minister on Wednesday replacing Trivendra Singh Rawat, who was removed by the BJP leadership due to growing discontent against his leadership.
