China Imposed Lockdown due to largest Covid-19 outbreak.

China’s efforts to contain the pandemic’s most significant Covid-19 outbreak have caused many enterprises to cease operations, including Apple supplier Foxconn and automakers Toyota and Volkswagen.

So far this year, China has reported more local symptomatic Covid-19 cases than it did in all of 2021.

Several Chinese provinces and towns, including Shenzhen’s southern Chinese tech powerhouse, have tightened restrictions by Beijing’s ‘zero-tolerance’ goal of fast eliminating spread.

After dozens of additional local cases were reported this week, Shenzhen, China’s Silicon Valley, is doing mass testing.

As a result, public transportation has been suspended, and residents are encouraged to work from home as much as possible this week.

Foxconn, formerly known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, announced that its Shenzhen operations would be halted until further notice, with backup factories deployed to minimize disturbance.

Chip substrate and printed circuit board producer Unimicron Technology Corp, which also supplies Apple and Intel, and flexible printed circuit board maker Sunflex Technology Co Ltd were among the Taiwan companies who announced they had halted operations in Shenzhen.

Other cities have imposed limitations to differing degrees as well. For example, there is a curfew in Changchun, the capital of northeastern Jilin province, and schools have been closed in Shanghai’s financial district. In contrast, public transportation in Dongguan’s manufacturing district has been suspended.

Last week, Toyota announced that its joint venture with China’s FAW Group had halted operations in Changchun. Last week, Volkswagen, a joint venture with FAW, halted production at its vehicle and component operations from Monday to Wednesday.

Concerns about worldwide supply chain disruptions, especially in India, have been expressed as a result of the coronavirus-induced lockdowns.

Various pharma, electronics, steel, and automobile sectors in India are expected to be harmed if China’s lockdowns and restrictions continue due to a lack of components and intermediate materials.
