Cooper began his football career at Eastern Washington University, where he signed with coach Beau Baldwin’s Eastern Washington Eagles in 2012.

In 2013, he started his first redshirt year as a wide receiver and concluded the season with many single-season schools and national receiving records at the Football Championship Subdivision level.

On December 16, 2013, he was also chosen as the 2013 Jerry Rice Award winner.
On January 9, 2014, he received the 2013 FCS Wide Receiver Award at the College Football Performance Awards.

As a sophomore, he caught 104 passes for 1,431 yards and 16 touchdowns in 13 games.
In the 2014 Walter Payton Award voting, he came in 18th place.

He has 114 receptions for 1,642 yards and 19 touchdowns in 11 games during the 2015 season.
He also received the Walter Payton Award, making him the third Eastern Washington player and just the second wide receiver to do so after Villanova’s Brian Finneran in 1997.

On November 30, 2015, he declared that he would return for his senior season after reports that he contemplated entering the 2016 NFL Draft.

Later, he played in the 2017 Senior Bowl for the North, where he had two catches for 14 yards in a 16-15 loss against the South.
NFLDraftScout.com evaluated him as the eighth-best wide receiver in the draft.

After that, he was taken in the third round (69th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.
He signed a four-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams for $3.83 million, including a $954,760 signing bonus.

Cooper made his professional regular-season debut in the Rams’ season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
He had eight catches for 69 yards and a touchdown in his first career postseason game on January 6, 2018, as the Rams fell 26-13 to the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Wild Card Game.

On September 27, 2018, he caught nine catches for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-31 victory against the Minnesota Vikings.
