New Delhi: A lightning strike, caused by heavy rains, struck near the Brahmakund in Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar, as a wall collapsed and a transformer installation burned down.

Fortunately, no victims were reported in the incident that occurred the night before.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities have asked pilgrims to avoid the Brahmakund area.

Meanwhile, local police and Shri Ganga Sabha volunteers have surrounded the area and started operations to clean up the site.

Earlier on Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert in Uttarakhand, urging people to stay away from potentially dangerous areas.

The meteorological department has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in five mountain districts – Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Chamoli – over the next three days, July 21-23.
