Indian Jumping Ants Can Restore Their Brain
Despite being the most evolved species, there are some things that humans simply cannot do. How to change the size of our brain. Over the years, it was discovered that certain members of the animal kingdom possess the ability to increase the size of their brains. And now, a new study has revealed that Indian jumping ants can, too. What sets them apart is the fact that these ants can not only increase the size of their brain but also revert it to the previous state at a later time. According to a study published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B on Wednesday, scientists found that Indian jumping ants can shrink their brains by nearly 20 percent and restore them within weeks. With this, it can become the first insects to exhibit this ability. According to the study, this characteristic is used by the females of the species to prepare for reproduction.

The ability is also related to the position of the female in the hierarchy of the colony. Unlike other species of ants, Indian jumping ants allow females to compete for the place of the queen of the colony. Queens are generally the only ants allowed to breed, and male ants facilitate breeding. But once the queen dies, more than half of the worker ants of this species participate in a contest to solidify their position as the next leader.
