India will continue to play more freely but must focus on executing the plans correctly as they look to tick all the boxes in the run-up to the T20 World Cup, young hitter Shreyas Iyer said on Friday.
On the eve of the first T20I, India’s skipper Virat Kohli had said that he expected his team to play much more freely in the series against England.
When asked if India will need to move away from this new hitting philosophy that Kohli spoke about after the team’s eight-field loss in the first T20I, Iyer said: “It definitely won’t change because if you look at the batting lineup, we have and power hitters in the future, we don’t have to change anything to be honest. “
“We have come up with a plan and we have to execute as much as possible because for the World Cup we have to make sure we have met all the requirements. This is a five-game series so it’s a perfect time to try different things and see what suits us, ”said Iyer.
The selectors have chosen IPL artists Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Rahul Tewatia for the England series, while fit Rishabh Pant has returned.

When asked if he was under pressure to act, Iyer said: “I don’t have any pressure to act, I’m playing freely, happily and enjoying my tickets.”
Iyer came out at bat at number five after Rishabh Pant was promoted in the batting order.
“When entering the Indian team, you have to be flexible with the batting position in which you will bat. I have not made any changes, it is only the mentality, what the team requires and hits according to the situation, “he said.
“It was a challenging situation, we had to keep playing a natural game and keep marking the score regardless of losing early ground.”
Iyer, who is the Delhi Capitals captain in the IPL, said his experience playing the league helped.
“I’ve been in this situation before, I’ve been there at IPL, it’s not the first time.
“I knew I’d get weird limits and the momentum changes if I get a partnership and then the batsmen dominate the bowlers, so from that point of view, his bowlers played well. It was their day and congratulations to them. “
When asked the reason behind playing three spinners, he said: “We practiced on this surface before the game and when the spinners were bowling it would stop and turn, very similar to the two-step wicket we played on. The plan was to play three spinners, since that is our strong point ”.
Speaking about his thought process when he came out to bat with the team struggling at 20-3, Iyer said: “I knew Rishabh was hitting well, my thinking was taking singles. He was the dominator at the time and I decided I’d play ball for ball before the spinners show up. “
“It worked quite well for me. They threw 3 overs of Adil and I was waiting for him to finish.
“It was tough to face the bowlers in the early stages, but we had decided to go 140-150 at the time, but we keep losing wicket so obviously it didn’t work out for us.”
