Intel has confirmed that its upcoming 11th generation Rocket Lake-S processor will not be compatible with the budget H410 or B460 chipsets. According to an updated support page quoted by VideoCardz, the company’s 400 series chipsets will receive BIOS updates to assist the new Rocket Lake processors, while motherboards based primarily on Intel B460 or H410 chipsets will not be compatible with upcoming Intel Core processors from 11th generation. The company hinted that motherboards based primarily on the H470, Q470 or Z490 chipsets will be supported.
Entry-level 400 series motherboards will be compatible with 11th Gen Comet Lake Refresh CPUs including Pentium, Celeron, and Core i3 parts, but will not receive support for Rocket Lake lineup such as Core i5, Core i7, and Core i9 SKUs.

This might come as a surprise to many, as Intel’s incoming Rocket Lake processors continue to use the LGA1200 socket. However, the H410 and B460 chipsets are based on an older 22nm compute node, so updating the BIOS is not enough to add support for incoming desktop processors.
For those disappointed by the information that the Rocket Lake-S desktop processors got support in the H410 or B460, some motherboard vendors have already started to bypass Intel’s new guidelines. Gigabyte, for example, will add support to the ‘H410 and B460 motherboards’ by taking advantage of the H470 chipset.
The company is expected to launch the 11th generation core processors in the following months, following the download of Intel’s Z590 motherboards.
