Investigation Indicates LeT Terrorist in Sopore Attack

Preliminary investigation indicates that a local terrorist Mudasir Pandit from the outlaw LeT terrorist team and a foreign terrorist are involved in the Sopore terror attack, police said Monday. On March 29, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the Sopore police received information about a terrorist crime incident near SDH Sopore where terrorists had attacked municipal councilors. High-ranking police and CAPF officers together with their teams immediately arrived at the scene of the terrorist crime, according to a statement from the Jammu and Kashmir police.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the terrorists had fired indiscriminately at the municipal councilors near the Lone building, in front of SDH Sopore, resulting in the injuries of two municipal councilors, namely Reyaz Ahmad Pir and Shams-ud-din Pir, and to the police personnel, namely Shafqat Nazir.

However, between the wounded councilor Reyaz Ahmad and police personnel, Shafqat Ahmad succumbed to his injuries and achieved martyrdom. Meanwhile, another wounded councilor has been taken to hospital for treatment, “police said.

It is pertinent to mention that after the terrorist attack, IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar-IPS visited PD Sopore and inspected the scene of the terrorist crime. Subsequently, he chaired a security review meeting with Commander 5-Sector RR, DIG CRPF, and SSP Sopore.

The main focus of the meeting was the attack today (Monday) by the terrorists in Sopore Town and the necessary security measures that will be taken to counter such terrorist attacks.

While interacting with officers, IGP Kashmir urged participating officers that it is critically important to improve the safety of vulnerable people and take all necessary steps to thwart the nefarious designs of terrorists.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that a local Mudasir Pandit terrorist from the outlaw LeT terrorist team together with a foreign terrorist are involved in such attack. However, further investigations are being rigorously conducted. IGP Kashmir also took serious note of the poor retaliation and by the OSPs of the protected persons present at the scene and ordered SSP Sopore to suspend four OSPs, “the statement read.

Later, to pay honor and respect to these martyrs, an offering-laying ceremony was held at DPL Sopore where floral tributes were rendered to the martyrs. Senior Police / SF officers laid a wreath on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the martyrs, “it said.

The police have registered a case in this regard under the relevant sections of the law and the officers continue to work to establish all the circumstances of this terrorist crime. Cordon and search operations are being carried out in various locations to catch the attackers.
