National award-winning Kannada actor Sanchari Vijay (38), who had suffered severe head injuries and a broken femur in a bicycle accident on Saturday night, passed away at a private hospital in Bangalore on Monday afternoon.

Vijay, a stage actor made his film debut with Rangappa Hogbitna in 2011. He then won the National Best Actor Award for playing a transgender in the film Kannada (autobiographical) Naanu Avanalla … Avalu (I’m not him … but her), directed by BS Lingadevaru in 2015. On Saturday around 11:45 pm, Vijay was in the back seat of his friend Naveen’s bike in JP Nagar’s Stage 7, when the bike went off the road and hit a power pole. Both riders were not wearing helmets, causing Vijay to sustain a serious head injury. He was rushed to the Apollo Hospital on Bannerghatta Road and was immediately operated on by Dr. Arun Naik.

Vijay’s younger brother Siddesh Kumar reported that his family had decided to donate vital organs as the late actor always believed in helping others. “It’s a tough decision. But our family is coming to terms with the fact that nothing can be done now. Despite being a national recipient, he was one of the common men. He volunteered during the floods in the state. and now he works for the help of Covid.
