K Sudhakar, the Karnataka Health Minister, tested positive for COVID-19. Sudhakar confirmed the news in a tweet on Thursday evening, writing, “After being uninfected for three waves of the pandemic, I tested positive for COVID-19. Because my symptoms are mild, I shall home-isolate myself and adhere to all guidelines. I’m thankful that I’ve had all of my vaccinations.”
“I’m requesting that everybody who has had touch with me in the previous few days be tested,” he stated.
According to a bulletin issued by the state health department on Thursday, 297 new COVID-19 cases were registered in Karnataka. The state’s optimism rate has risen to 1.45% with today’s figure. Bengaluru alone reported 276 new illnesses across the districts.

Meanwhile, state Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar expressed alarm over the surge of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra on Thursday, saying that face masks would have to be made obligatory if the trend continues.
On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported 1,081 instances of COVID-19 infection, the biggest daily increase since February 24. The state has recorded 711 cases as of Tuesday.
“The wearing of face masks will have to be made obligatory if the number of Coronavirus infections continues to climb,” Pawar stated during a news briefing today.
“If the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra continues to climb, the state government would consider making masks obligatory. The government is keeping a close watch on everything.
