In Richard Brander’s 1981 indie film “Sizzle Beach, U.S.A.,” Kevin Costner made his acting debut. Despite being finished in 1981, the movie wasn’t released until 1986.
After making his film debut, he went on to appear in movies including “Chasing Dreams,” “Night Shift,” “Stacy’s Knights,” “Table for Five,” “Shadows Run Black,” “Fandango,” “American Flyers,” “The Untouchables,” “No Way Out,” “Bull Durham,” “Field of Dreams,” and “The Gunrunner” (1989).
He portrayed the part of “Lt. John J. Dunbar” in the 1990 American epic Western movie “Dances with Wolves,” which he also produced and directed. The movie got favorable reviews from critics, 12 Academy Award nominations, and seven wins, including “Best Picture” and “Best Director” for Costner.
With a $22 million budget, “Dances with Wolves” was also a huge box office hit, earning nearly $424.2 million. In the American action-adventure movie “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,” directed by Kevin Reynolds, Costner portrayed “Robin Hood” in 1991.

He played the character of “Denny Davies” in the romantic comedy-drama movie “The Upside of Anger,” helmed by Mike Binder in 2005. The film’s premiere mainly received favorable reviews and was a modest commercial success.
