Man shoots woman dead and kills self as she did not marry

A 23-year-old man shot dead a woman and then himself in the Lalpur village of Meerut early Saturday morning. Guddu, aka Khushneed, and Yameen (35), a married woman with four children, were reportedly in a relationship for the past two years. A suicide note was recovered from Guddu’s possession, police said.

Local residents saw their bodies in a vacant lot on the outskirts of town. Both bodies were turned over to their respective families after post-mortem examination, police said.

The suicide note read: “We are in love, but we cannot get married. So, we are taking this extreme step together. ”

SP (Rural) Keshav Kumar said: “Yameen and Guddu were in a relationship for the last two years and they wanted to get married. However, their families vehemently opposed their relationship. Before taking the extreme step, Guddu had also sent his brother a video clip saying they had no choice but to end their lives. We also recovered a national-made pistol, which was used ”.

Police also said that Guddu had extensively investigated suicide options on YouTube.
