Mumbai HC Extended NIA Custody of Sachin Waze until April 9
A Mumbai court on Wednesday extended NIA custody of the suspended Mumbai police bureau Sachin Waze until April 9 in the case of an explosives-laden SUV found near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani and the businessman’s death. Mansukh Hiran.
Waze was arrested by the National Investigative Agency (NIA) on March 13. On Wednesday he was presented before the special judge of the NIA PR Site, who extended his custody to the investigative agency until April 9.
The NIA had requested the extension of Waze’s pretrial detention to further investigate the case.
Two other defendants in the case suspended police officer Vinayak Shinde and cricket bookmaker Naresh Gor were placed in pre-trial detention for 14 days by the court.
The court also allowed the CBI to question Waze in connection with its preliminary investigation into the accusation of corruption made by senior police officer Param Bi Singh against former Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh.
A Scorpio with explosives was found near Ambani’s residence in South Mumbai on February 25.
Mansukh Hiran, who was in possession of the vehicle, was found dead in the Mumbra stream in Thane on March 5.
