On July 25, 2017, Shri Ram Nath Kovind took the oath of office as India’s fourteenth president. He was a lawyer by trade and had previously held the position of Governor of the State of Bihar before becoming the highest constitutional position.

Career
In 1971, Shri Kovind registered as an advocate with the Delhi Bar Council. From 1977 to 1979, he was the Union Government’s attorney in the Delhi High Court.
He advanced to the position of Advocate-on-Record of the Indian Supreme Court in 1978. He served as the Union Government’s Standing Counsel at the Supreme Court from 1980 until 1993.
Kovind also offered pro bono assistance to the less fortunate members of society via the Free Legal Aid Society of New Delhi, particularly to women and the underprivileged.
