The Creative Director for Dragon Age 4: BioWare’s chief executive Gary McKay recently provided fans with a brief update on Dragon Age 4. It’s not all that much, but it’s something news-loving fans can look forward to while eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series.
McKay confirmed that Dragon Age 4 was being made along with announcing the changes to staff, such as the departure of Christian Dailey and the new production director, game director, and director of product development.
The position that was not named was that of creative director. As most people know, Matthew Goldman served as the creative director for the game Dragon Age 4 until he quit BioWare towards the closing of 2021.
A few fans may consider changes in personnel as a bad sign for a game. It’s certainly possible to indicate something, and it’s natural to worry. However, the reality is that it’s just the way of life in the business.
However, simply because it’s possible does not mean that it will. Even though the BioWare blog didn’t mention the matter, Dragon Age 4 has an entirely new creative director in John Epler.
Epler confirmed this on his Twitter account. For those who might not instantly recognize his character’s name. It’s important to note his extensive history with BioWare dating from 2008. The credits span the development of video games, including Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition, and related DLCs such as Witch Hunt and Trespasser, Mass Effect 2, and many more.
The Creative Director for Dragon Age 4
The former BioWare designer David Gaider, credited with the development of Thedas and the creation of characters. Such as Zevran, Morrigan, Alistar, Shale, and Dorian Epler, has also commented on his appointment.
In the following video, Gaider deems it an optimistic signal to Dragon Age 4. This is encouraging, especially when paired with the work Epler previously did.
Gaider For instance, Gaider has stated in an Insanity interview Epler was the one responsible for Iron Bull’s pansexuality. And that the character initially race-gated due to certain limitations.
The success that was Iron Bull as a character in Dragon Age: Inquisition can’t be overstated, and the player’s freedom to choose his love life was a significant step. This is only one instance. However, it’s a sign of things to come.
In the end, if you’re concerned over what “qualifications” require for this position. There’s ample evidence that Epler is the one with the necessary background and knowledge. It’s good news for fans. However, they must remember it’s still a long way before they get to play the game.
While ignoring the above middle-of-production statement, an insider, Jeff Grubb, recently mentioned that Dragon Age 4 was at least 18 months away, which would put the game in a 2023/possibly 2024 release window. This seems to be the case, but should that be the case, maybe some tangible Dragon Age 4 announcements will make before the end of 2022.
Dragon Age 4 is in development.
