Team India on the road to 2023

Team India pacer and vice-captain of the ODI Jasprit Bumrah believes that sustaining an

eye on the future will be crucial in the run-up to 2023’s 50-over World Cup.

With only ten months and one year left for the event to be held in India, The upcoming 3-

match ODI game in South Africa starting from Wednesday (January 19) is the first step for

the winners of the 2011 and 1983 tournaments to identify the critical elements of the 50-

overs’ wheel.

“We must keep an eye on the future to know in which direction to take in the lead up to

2023’s World Cup. The preparations will begin if new players are introduced or in which

direction we should take. We’ll try to provide the same opportunities to all.

Therefore, I believe that having a clear and consistent perspective will be crucial,” said

Bumrah in the press conference that was held online that took place on the morning of

Tuesday (January 17).

“Giving importance to each series, while staying in the present while trying to figure out

what needs to happen in the circumstance will be highly valued.

However, keeping a goal in mind is crucial, and we’ll try to establish the bar high,” added

Bumrah, vice-captain of the OODs in the series in the series against South Africa.

In a discussion about his approach to 50-over cricket after playing the Test series, Bumrah

said, “You have to move ahead.

It’s an entirely different way of playing the game. The pace alters, and the load on the

body is also reduced.

It is essential to concentrate on the tasks we must accomplish. It’s a smaller structure with

a faster speed.

“As bowlers are to look at and test the various options swiftly you’re expected to do as a bowling group.

That’s what I’ll be looking forward to making. I will be bringing a new perspective and

eager to contribute to the team in any way I can, and working to move the team to the

next level.”

Bumrah believes that nobody within the squad has any issues regarding the leadership

changes.

With Rohit Sharma taking over Virat Kohli as captain of the white ball and later unable to

play on tour due to an injury to his left hamstring, KL Rahul has been appointed captain.

“I don’t have the authority to speak for everyone. However, I’m able to say that it doesn’t

impact me.

Everyone is trying to help in whatever possible, and I believe that’s how all players react to

the changes.

“Everybody respects and is aware of the way things are going. The only constant is a

change which is why we are content.

Everyone contributes and gains lots of information, and everyone is working too.

So I don’t believe anyone has a problem or is in a strange situation with the shift which is

taking place.

“Everybody is aware of the changes and has played enough cricket to know that change is

the way it takes place and how you must move forward. So everyone is very positive and

eager to be a part of and contribute to forward with the change that is taking place.”

The 28-year-old departed by stating his cricketer Mohammed Siraj, who injured his

hamstring in the second Test in Johannesburg.

He is likely to be fit and healthy to participate in this ODI series.

“I believe that he’s fit. He’s in a group with us. So, I don’t feel any issues.

I hope that things stay that way. Unfortunately, it’s not something I’m aware of at the

moment. However, everyone seems good.

So, I hope it will remain that way.”
