West Bengal Election Update 16.4.2021

The Election Commission had sent a notification to Ghosh for his alleged comments that there would be ‘Sitalkuchi in various places’, a reference to the murder of four people in the CISF shooting

The Election Commission on Thursday night imposed a 24-hour campaign ban on BJP West Bengal President Dilip Ghosh for his comments of “there will be Sitalkuchi in various places.” Earlier Election Commission banned CM Mamata Banerjee also for the same reason.

The order says the Commission “severely warns” Ghosh and advises him to desist from using such statements while making public statements during the period that the Model Code of Conduct is in effect.

The ban will take effect from 7:00 p.m. on April 15 to 7:00 p.m. on April 16, during which time Ghosh will not be able to campaign.

On Tuesday, the Commission issued a notice to Ghosh for his alleged comments after four people were killed when central forces opened fire during a vote at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district.

The ad cited Ghosh’s alleged comments that “if someone crosses his boundaries, then he has seen what happened in Sitalkuchi. There will be Sitalkuchi in various places.”
