Why Did The Florida Building Collapse?
Steel and concrete as labs can learn so much information from those piles of debris. This stunning look from above revealing a condo complex with an entire section gone. If you look at the surfside Florida map, the portion of this map in red that used to be standing at the campaign tower south just over 24 hours is now a pile of debris.
Greg Schlessinger, who has built several places in the area, has many ideas about what happened. He says, “there are two items here concrete and steel. If the steel is exposed and loses its structural integrity, the concrete fails instantaneously. And that’s how it fails.
He also added, “I would surmise more likely than not that the way it went. ” However, civil engineers will say any investigation will examine factors like maintenance and erosion.
The building began sinking years ago, according to a recent report from Florida international university. This particular building, identified as a building that moves in 1990. Shimone said the tower was sinking two millimeters a year. However, it’s unclear if that continued or attributed to Thursday’s collapse.
The attorney for the condo association says any rush to judgment on what might have caused the collapse is unfair and premature. There was no warning that the building was subject to a threat to collapse.

There has to be an engineering explanation beyond what we ordinarily see in terms of wear and tear on a building. And we need toss answers.
Here is what we know about this 12-story high rise. It was built in 1981. It has no unsafe structures, no work without permits or expired permits. The attorney for the condo, Sxoegz says, campaign towers had just finished a building inspection and were about to perform steel and concrete repairs.
However, the collapse surprising even seasoned engineers. It is sporadic. There have been a few in the decades that I have been in practice. Glenn bell says engineers will try and deduce a cause.
How it piled up, how the pieces broke down can tell you a lot to the trained eye about how the failure may have initiated, where it initiated and how it progressed.
And we also found out that an owner at this building filed a lawsuit back in 2015 claiming that management failed to maintain an outside wall properly.
Still, an attorney for the condo association tells us all buildings have leaks. So that is not indicative of a structural issue.
