IPL 2021 All Players will be Tested for Covid 19 every day.
In light of the dire Covid situation in the country, the Indian Premier League has imposed stricter restrictions on the existing bio-bubble. Those inside now will be tested for the virus every other day, rather than once every five days, as was the case until now. Although they have practically no contact with the outside world, the BCCI does not want to take risks at this time.
In another decision aimed at preventing infection, the IPL has prohibited players and others within the bio bubble from ordering food from outside the hotel where they are staying. There were several instances where food was ordered from locations and outlets outside of the bubble. The BCCI had allowed these types of deliveries so that people would not get bored of eating the same hotel food for too long.
But this was considered to increase the risk of contact with people outside the safe environment and therefore of infection.
“At the beginning of the tournament, we had allowed food delivery from outside the designated hotels, but these privileges have also been withdrawn. Apart from this, we have also increased our level of caution to strengthen our bio-bubbles, ”BCCI CEO Hemang Amin informed all IPL teams.
This restriction will also affect people within the bio bubble who used to get food from their homes or relatives in the same city, even when they could not physically go. There was also a case of a five-star hotel that charged Rs.500 each for an empty plate when food was brought in from abroad.
After this restriction went into effect, some franchises began having buffet counters for their equipment inside hotels.
The IPL had to reassure players and others within the bio bubble, especially foreigners, who may have been nervous about the rapid increase in coronavirus cases in the country. The venues where the games are played – Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata – have seen a large increase in infections in recent weeks. At least four foreign players have withdrawn from the tournament citing ‘bubble fatigue’, anxiety for their personal safety, and/or concern about how they will return home, as their countries have banned incoming flights from India.
