Z+ Security Coverage for BJP’s Presidential Pick Droupadi Murmu

According to authorities, the Centre has given Droupadi Murmu, the NDA’s presidential candidate, a Z+ security cover of CRPF commandos.
Early Wednesday morning, the armed squad took over Ms Murmu’s protection, a senior official informed PTI.

Following a meeting of the party’s parliamentary board that included Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top officials on Tuesday night, BJP President JP Nadda announced the candidacy of Ms Murmu, a party leader from Odisha who previously served as Jharkhand Governor.

According to officials, as soon as this news was made, the Union home ministry ordered the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to send out its VIP protection squad to handle Ms Murmu’s security.

According to the authorities, the NDA presidential contender was the subject of a danger perception security study created by central security agencies.

The responsibility for providing Ms Murmu with security protection has been transferred to a detachment of around 14–16 members of the paramilitary force located in Odisha. The authorities said they would accompany her on all her journeys throughout the state and the nation.

Her residence in Rairangpur, Odisha, would also be protected by the security forces.

Over the following month, Ms Murmu is anticipated to travel widely to meet with lawmakers and party leaders to solicit support for her candidacy.

Since the odds are in favour of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, it is anticipated that the commando squad would protect her until she assumes leadership as the nation’s first citizen (NDA).

The first family of the Congress party, which includes party president Sonia Gandhi and her children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among others, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are protected by the CRPF.

Similar security protection from the NSG commandos known as the “black cats” was given to Ram Nath Kovind, the current president and NDA presidential candidate, in 2017.

To choose President Kovind’s replacement, a presidential election will be conducted on July 18. The results will be announced on July 21.

The tenure of President Kovind expires on July 24.
