“36 bodies have been recovered from the landslide site. Locals say there are fears more people are trapped,” the official said.
The search and rescue operation is led by NDRF teams, staff from the local disaster management cell, the police, and the district administration, he said.
Raigad district collector Nidhi Choudhary said the landslide incident was reported Thursday night. “But since the roads leading to the site were blocked due to flooding and mud, the rescue teams had a difficult time reaching the site,” he said.
“The operation resumed today in the morning and the bodies were recovered in the afternoon,” he added.
According to officials, there are around 30 houses in the village, which were completely damaged due to the incident.
