A Pokemon fan has made some very impressive Lugia and Charizard 3D cards that are indeed one-of-a-kind items.
3D trading cards can make with real-life cut-outs, clever layering, or digital modeling. Both ways, the goal is to make it look like the pocket monster on the show can touch and played with.
This isn’t the first time Pokemon fans have made 3D trading cards, but it might be the best.
Monovertex, who goes by Sunforged Cards on Reddit, made a short video to show off their work.
The video starts with them holding the main pieces, which are cut-outs of Charizard and Lugia, with what looks like tweezers. Next, the clip shows the 3D Pokemon already inside structures that look like two giant, raised Pokemon cards. The card bases are made of light wood or cardstock and are about an inch or so thick.
About 10 hours to make the Charizard card and eight hours to make the Lugia card. It looks like a lot of work to create 3D Pokemon cards, especially with the layered method. The result is a thick base with a hollowed-out area around the Pokemon.
It takes several cards to make this happen. This makes the 3D Pokemon image stand out more, giving it a more 3D look. Sunforged Cards says they print their custom proxies on Canon photo paper with a Pixma inkjet printer. Holo cards are printed on transparent film and then glued on holo film.
According to Sunforged Cards, they made these 3D Pokemon cards with custom proxies – in other words, fake trading cards they made at home. Brokers are in a weird place in the trading card world. But, on the other hand, they can be an excellent way to get cards that aren’t cheap or to try out new decks before you spend money.
On the other hand, proxies usually not allow in any setting but the most casual. This is because they can mistaken for more dangerous counterfeit trading cards. However, it can’t deny that proxies can use to make trading card art without having to destroy real trading cards.
