Pokemon GO is being shut down in Russia and Belarus:  Pokemon Go became a huge hit when it first came out in 2016, making it famous worldwide and still play today. On the other hand, Pokemon GO is still making a tonne of money for Niantic and the Pokemon Company.

It’s still one of the most popular mobile apps out there. Many people around the world love Pokemon GO. People in Russia and Belarus can no longer play the game because of a new law.

Niantic has said that to show its support for Ukraine and help with the growing sanctions against Russia. Its games can no longer download in Russia or Belarus. Niantic has also said that it will stop playing games in Russia and Belarus for Pokemon GO and its other games for good.

The company that makes Pokemon GO, Ingress, and Pikmin Bloom also known for making Pokemon GO and Ingress. One of the games was called Harry Potter: Wizards Unite but shut it down at the end of January 2022.

People who make video games are getting more and more likely to stop selling and operating in Russia.

Niantic is the latest. It hoped that by cutting off access to things like entertainment and other things. The people of Russia will angry and put pressure on the government to stop its attack on Ukraine.

Russia’s economy has ruined by these efforts and the larger-scale economic sanctions that have put in place against the country. Russian rubles are now worth less than Roblox virtual currency because of the sanctions against their government.

It isn’t clear yet if the powerful economic sanctions against Russia will work, but it seems like the pressure is getting stronger every day.

In response to video game companies stopping sales in Russia, the Russian government has made piracy legal. That solution might work well for many video games. It would be much more challenging to do well in Pokemon GO, which is a game.

In most cases, Niantic can figure out whether people in Russia are using fake accounts and ban them because it usually keeps an eye on things like this.
