Kishan, who replaced Shikhar Dhawan, hit five limits and four sixes. He had added 94 runs with Kohli.
The rookie was in awe of his captain during his partnership and hopes to choose the mastermind of India’s patron during the five-game series.
“It was a feeling of pride for me because I had just seen him (Kohli) on television, his attitude on the ground, but seeing him from the other side is totally different. I think it is something that I can change in myself, his energy, his appearance on the ground, there is a lot to learn from him.
“The way he talks on the ground takes the pressure off you. I just want to make sure I learn a lot from him in this series, ”Kishan said at the post-match virtual press conference after the seven-wicket victory.
The young left-hander, however, admitted that he was a bit nervous during his debut innings.
“Obviously, it is not a pressure to play for India, it is a privilege and a feeling of pride to represent your country and wear the blue jersey.
“Before the game they told me to go and open the innings and play freely like I do in IPL. They told me not to exert additional pressure. But being my first game, I was a little nervous as I hit the ground. “
“But when you put on your country’s jersey, that pressure just goes away and you try to do your best.”
However, the left-handed hitter’s heroism in his debut game received high praise from all quarters, including former India starter Virender Sehwag, who compared the youngster to the great MS Dhoni of India.
”A young goalie-hitter from Jharkhand moved up the batting order and showed his caliber. This has happened before. I loved Ishan Kishan’s bravery and attacking hitting. “
