American journalist killed in Ukraine: Kyiv police chief.
LVIV, Ukraine: Russian forces shot and killed an American journalist in the village of Irpin in Ukraine’s Kyiv area on Sunday.
In contrast, another journalist was wounded, according to Kyiv regional police commander Andriy Nyebytov.
Initially, Nyebytov stated that the deceased journalist worked for the New York Times.
The Times, on the other hand, noted that the journalist had formerly worked for the publication but was no longer employed there. Brent Renaud, according to the New York Times, was the journalist.
“Brent Renaud’s death has come as a shock to us. Brent was a gifted photographer and videographer who had previously contributed to the New York Times, “A spokeswoman for the New York Times noted in a statement released on Twitter.
“Though he has previously contributed to The Times (most recently in 2015), he was not on assignment for any Times bureau in Ukraine,” it noted.
“Early claims that he worked for the New York Times spread because he was wearing a Times press badge issued for a long-ago assignment.”
Renaud was shot by Russian forces in Irpin, according to Nyebytov, but he did not elaborate on the incident. In addition, he didn’t say who the injured journalist was.
“A third journalist was hurt. We’re currently attempting to remove the victim from the conflict zone.” In a statement, he stated.
