AstraZeneca Supply Issues Outside India Resolved: UNICEF.
Issues related to the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine surge outside India for supplies for the COVAX vaccine exchange facility have been resolved, UNICEF told Reuters on Tuesday, saying it should receive 65 million doses by the end of May.
“The initial challenges related to the release of vaccines due to the increase of a new supply chain and production on different continents have now been solved,” said the UN agency responsible for distributing the vaccines through the program.
“At this point, UNICEF expects that around 65 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from suppliers outside of India will be available for supply until the end of May to 80 countries.”
It also expects to receive 50 million doses of the injection from the Serum Institute of India in May, compared to almost none this month, as the company tries to meet demand in its home country that is battling a large increase in infections.
