Atletico Madrid defeated Cadiz 2-1 to take third place in La Liga. This gives them a boost of confidence ahead of next week’s Champions League trip to Manchester United.
Diego Simeone’s team is three points ahead of Barcelona hosts Osasuna Sunday.
Real Madrid is 12 points behind. Real have one game left. On Tuesday, Atletico will travel to Old Trafford for a Champions League tie last 16.

The match is poised at 1-1 following the last leg in Spain.
Simeone stated, “We had the character and the will to get the result after a half in which we could have done better,”
“But, without a doubt, the most important thing is still a victory, especially in this time.
“Cadiz performed well. They have improved tremendously since their new coach arrived, but we continue to build that spirit that this team requires to remain competitive.”
Portugal’s Joao Feliciano gave Atletico the perfect start, scoring the opening goal in the third minute of the match after receiving a pass from Mario Ledesma.
Alvaro Negredo, a 36-year-old striker, led Cadiz to the line just before half-time.
Rodrigo de Paul won the match in the 68th minute.
