Career

Bhupinder performed on All India Radio in Delhi early in his career. Additionally, he was associated with the Delhi Doordarshan Center.

He studied the violin and guitar. He was summoned to Bombay in 1964 when Madan Mohan, the music director, overheard him on AIR.

In Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat, he provided him the opportunity to perform the song Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga with Mohammad Rafi. But, despite the song’s success, Bhupinder didn’t get much attention.

In several low-budget movies, he performed a few additional pieces.
Later, Bhupinder joined Rahul Dev Burman’s orchestra and contributed to several of his well-known compositions, such as Dum Maro Dum, on the guitar.

He became close to R D Burman, who provided him the opportunity to perform in Gulzar’s Parichay (1972). Beeti Na Beetai Raina and Mitwa Bole Meethe Bai, two songs Bhupinder sang in the film, helped him get a reputation as a vocalist.

Bhupinder performed some of the most well-known songs in Gulzar’s films. Dil Dhoondta Hai, Naam Gum Jayega, and Ek Akela Are Shaher Mein were a few of these tunes.

Bhupinder gradually began releasing his CDs. Three of the tracks on his 1968 debut LP were self-penned by him.

He released his second ghazal LP in 1978, which used the Spanish guitar, bass, and drums for the first time in the ghazal genre. Finally, he released his third LP, Woh Jo Shair Tha, in 1980. Gulzar wrote the lyrics for it.
