Career
• In 1997, she won a seat in the Rairangpur district council in Odisha. She was chosen to serve as Rairangpur’s vice-chairperson in the same year.
• Murmu was elected as a BJP minister in the 2000 assembly elections from the Rairangpur seat, and from 2000 to 2004, she oversaw the departments of transportation, commerce, fisheries, and animal husbandry.

Draupadi Murmu Personal Life
Draupadi wed the deceased bank employee Shyam Charan Murmu in 2014. Her two sons, one of them named Laxman Murmu and who died away in 2013, were boys.
She lost her second son in 2009. She said in an interview that she battled despair after the death of her sons.
Draupadi’s father, Biranchi Narayan Tudu, was a farmer who went by that name. She was the headman of the village, as were both of her parents and both of her grandmothers.
