Caty McNally wins in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open.

A match result tells everything! This time, it is clear that Caty recover her injury successfully and made her first win in the tournament. 

Leg cramps and Aliaksandra Sasnovich were obstacles that Caty McNally overcame to win 6-3 3-6 7-6(2) in the Cincinnati Open first round on Monday in her hometown.

After her first serve on match point, McNally grasped at her left leg in anguish, making it momentarily seem as if she would not make it to the finish line.

She persevered through the agony at the final significant tune-up match before the U.S. Open. She fell on her back after winning the next point.

Sasnovich, a Belarusian, exhibited outstanding sportsmanship by making his way to McNally’s side of the court and hugging her.

Alison Riske, a fellow American, also played well in the latter stages of her match, defeating Sara Sorribes Tormo with a score of 6-1 7-6(2) to continue her recent winning streak.

In earlier matches of the WTA 1000 tournament, American Amanda Anisimova defeated ninth-seeded Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-4 6-4, and Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez 6-4 7-5 to advance.
