China responds to Nupur Sharma’s Prophet statements. 

Beijing: China responded to the inflammatory statements against Prophet Muhammad by two now-suspended BJP officials on Monday (June 13, 2022). It expressed their hope that the situation would be appropriately handled. 

“China always believes that diverse civilizations and faiths should respect each other and live together as equals,” stated Beijing, facing serious claims of a major crackdown on Uygur Muslims in the volatile Xinjiang region.

“We have noticed relevant information and hope that the matter will be handled appropriately,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a press conference in response to a query from the official Chinese media about the demonstrations sparked by BJP leaders’ statements.

“It is always vital to put pride and prejudice aside, to better comprehend the distinctions between one’s own civilization and other civilizations, and to foster exchanges, conversation, and peaceful cohabitation,” he stated.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website has been updated with Wang’s latest remarks.

After their controversial statements against the Prophet, the BJP suspended national spokesman Nupur Sharma and fired Delhi media chief Naveen Kumar Jindal on June 5.

In response to Muslim organizations’ objections, the party published a statement intending to assuage minorities’ fears and distancing themselves from these individuals, stating that it respects all faiths and vehemently condemns the insulting of any religious figure.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, all faiths are treated with the utmost respect.
