Cogent communication and Lumen Technologies Inc. have cut off internet service after Russia invaded Ukraine. This is a significant setback for Russia, a big technology company.
People who read about it in the news say that Lumen shut down on Tuesday because of Russia’s “increased security risk.” The tech company says it only does “extremely small and minimal” business in Russia.
Following the “continued integrity of the global Internet,” Lumen technologies is said to have made this move.
Also, Cogent Communications, known as the “backbone” of the internet, said that it would stop providing internet service in Russia.
They are both parts of the network that lets data move through the heart of the internet.
They join a long list of businesses that have stopped doing business with Russia after it invaded Ukraine, so they don’t do business with them now.
Google has already stopped advertising in Russia after the country’s communication center said YouTube, a video-streaming service, spread misinformation and sparked protests.
Major tech companies aren’t the only businesses that have stopped working. Companies like Aston Martin and Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Toyota, and McDonald’s have all stopped working, too.
