Deepak Chahar Half-century Lead CSK Victory over Punjab Kings.

Deepak Chahar is one of the best IPL figures of his career to inspire Chennai Super Kings to a dominant victory over Punjab Kings.

By making his 50th appearance in the competition, Chahar helped ensure that Punjab innings never went live as they were restricted to 106-8.

Finished 4-13 from four overs, including a maiden, Punjab never faced a challenging surface in Mumbai.

Faf du Plessis (36 not out) and Moeen Ali (46) combined for 66 to help CSK reach their goal with 26 balls to spare, winning by six wickets.

Mayank Agarwal went for a two-ball duck to Chahar in the opening, misjudging a wonderful delivery that made the top of the stump rattle.

A direct hit from Ravindra Jadeja saw KL Rahul run off before the Antillean pair of Chris Gayle (10) and Nicholas Pooran (0) fell to Chahar before the end of the power play.

Deepak Hooda fell meekly to the middle of Chahar’s fourth ground, leaving Punjab 26-5 on lap seven.

 

 

Shahrukh Khan’s 47 of 36 balls, which included two sixes, at least ensured that Punjab had something to defend, but the lack of lower-order support meant the goal was always well within CSK’s reach.

Moeen and Du Plessis extinguished any hope that Punjab would claim an unlikely victory, their position in second field allowed the Super Kings to come to victory despite a bombing from Mohammed Shami in 15th place that saw Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu fired.

Chahar leaves a mark on its historical appearance

Chahar let out a loud roar as he castled Agarwal and had every right to do so after producing a pitch that was ripped off the middle stump to fool the starter.

The subsequent layoffs were more due to a good catch by Jadeja to get rid of Gayle and hitting errors by Pooran and Hooda, but nothing should be taken away from Chahar after he tipped the game firmly in CSK’s favor.

Moeen makes things move

Moeen and Du Plessis showed Punjab how to hit on the surface with the excellent association, England’s 46 all-rounders came out of 31 deliveries, their strike rate of 148.38 the best in the contest.

He had seven fours and max, with Du Plessis’s only six coming off a ball throw in the fourth over. The South African was still at the end when Sam Curran finished things off after a brief wobble.
