To install Electric Vehicle charging stations, the Delhi government entered into a contract
with Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) on the 19th of January.
The charging stations and battery swapping stations to charge electric three-, two- and
four-wheelers will be located at cluster bus depots in the Transport Department.
According to the sources, each charging and battery switching facility is placed in 14
places.
Each facility will have six charging points, and three of them are designed for two- and
three-wheelers, while three points will be designed for four-wheelers.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which the Transport department
signed, the CESL has committed to purchase the installation, manage and maintain
charging facilities and related infrastructure at its own cost and cost, according to a
Transport department statement.
The cost for the use of the facility will be borne through CESL in advance to Delhi Transport
Corporation (DTC) each month at a rate of one rupee for each kWh dispensing, the
statement said.
If the area required by the concessionaire exceeds ECS (Equivalent car space), then an
additional amount of Rs 2,000 is charged to the ECS for each calendar month.
In the beginning, the contract is for ten years, according to the document.
Following the MoU signed, the CESL will begin the work as soon as it is completed and will
complete the construction of each station over about four months.
The survey will be conducted at several DTC cluster depots in Rani Khera I, Rani Khaera II
the Rani Khera III, Rajghat, Dilshad Garden, Seema Puri, Bawana Sec-1, Bawana Sec-5,
Kanjhawala, Kair, Dichaon Kalan Dwarka Sec-22 Rewla Khanpur, and Chhatarpur were
jointly identified through the department as well as EESL for the construction of the facility.
The current status and availability of charging stations will be accessible through the ONE
DELHI app when the installation process is completed.
CESL will also reduce its carbon footprint. CESL will also reduce the carbon footprint and, if
feasible, incorporate solar rooftops and Battery Storage systems (BSS) together with the
construction of charging infrastructures to use the renewable power source to run charging
stations, according to the statement.
Furthermore, the agreement stipulates that a five percent interest subvention on loans to
purchase electric rickshaws, autos carts, and light goods vehicles will be made available.
The interest subvention program will benefit individuals and fleet owners that use their
vehicles to support e-commerce, grocery, or delivery industries, Delhi Transport Minister
Kailash Gahlot stated.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Vinod Kumar Yadav, the Deputy
Commissioner of the Delhi Transport department, and Convergence Energy Services
Limited (CESL) representative Polash Das, in the presence of Gahlot and other officials from
the department.
The interest subvention of 5 percent for loans to purchasing electric vehicles in the specific
class will be added to the incentive to buy Rs 30,000 and scrapping incentives as much as
Rs. 7,500 in the Delhi EV Policy, the Transport department stated in an announcement.
At present, the interest rate for EVs ranges from 25-30% for specific vehicle types making
owning an electric vehicle an expensive option, according to the report.
To ensure a straightforward process of passing the advantages to customers, an online
portal is scheduled to launch soon for consumers to have the option to select from various
equipped models of lithium-ion battery-operated electric three-wheelers such as e-autos,
E-rickshaws, carts, and light cargo carriers.
