New Delhi: Shortly after a 6.3 magnitude high intensity earthquake shook parts of Delhi NCR and various other parts of northern India on Friday night, Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter and prayed for the everyone’s safety. On the other hand, Punjab’s Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh clarified on Twitter that no damage has been reported in Amritsar or other parts of Punjab after the earthquake. He also added that senior Punjab police and local administration officials are closely monitoring the situation. As initial reports pointed to the earthquake’s epicenter in Amritsar, Punjab, Amarinder Singh said on Twitter: “So far there are no reports of damage in Amritsar or other parts of Punjab after the earthquake. Senior Punjab police and local administration officials are closely monitoring the situation. Praying for everyone’s safety. “

The seismology department at first wrongly gave the epicenter as Amritsar and calculated the depth of the earthquake at 19 km. He later sent a revised statement to confirm that the earthquake occurred in Tajikistan. He attributed the error to a software bug.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.3. The tremors created panic among the people who ran out of their homes. However, there were no immediate reports of loss of life or property damage.
Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi, who was interacting virtually with students at the University of Chicago, was heard saying that his entire room was “shaking.”
The leader of the National Conference (NC), Omar Abdullah, said that the tremors reminded people of the 2005 earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Since the 2005 earthquake, the tremors in Srinagar have not been strong enough to force me to leave my home. I grabbed a blanket and ran. I couldn’t remember to pick up my phone and I couldn’t tweet ‘earthquake’ while the damn ground was shaking, ”he tweeted.

Amritsar Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Khaira said that all of his officers are on alert and that PCR police vehicles are moving through the city.
Police Commissioner Amritsar Sukchain Singh Gill said that everything was normal in the Golden Temple as well and that volunteers were doing sewa as usual.
The Himalayan and Hindukush mountain ranges are prone to earthquakes, and their tremors can often be felt through the Indo-Gangetic belt.
