Four Cabinet ministers annulled in Nepal
Four cabinet ministers of the Prime Minister of Nepal, KP Sharma Oli, have been disqualified as members of Parliament after they defected to the Communist Party of Nepal-Marxist Leninist Unified.
Agni Sapkota, Speaker of the House of Representatives, ruled that the four ministers – Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Gauri Shankar Choudhary, Prabhu Shah and Lekhraj Bhatta – were disqualified as members of the House because they ceased to be members of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Center ), which was the party in which the 2018 elections were disputed.
The other Maoist-turned-UML leader, Interior Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa Badal, also has his fate at stake, as a letter from the Maoist Center seeking his disqualification is pending before the Speaker of the Upper House.
These ministers chose to remain in Oli’s cabinet even after the Communist Party of Nepal, formed from the merger of the UML and Maoist NCP, split and became two separate parties again.
