Himachal Pradesh's banned Sikh group leader charged with 'Khalistan' flags

In connection with the emergence of ‘Khalistan’ banners and graffiti on the walls of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly in Dharamshala yesterday, the head of the banned organization Sikhs for Justice has been identified as the primary culprit.

The strict anti-terror statute Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been used to accuse Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. In 2019, the Centre banned his organization, Sikhs for Justice, for anti-India actions.

After Sikhs for Justice called for a ‘Khalistan’ referendum on June 6, Himachal Police increased security in the state. Security has been increased at major government facilities, and interstate crossings have been blocked.

“In light of instances involving Khalistani elements in adjacent states, as well as an incidence of tying a Khalistani flag in Una district on April 11, 2022,

Following the recent incident of Khalistan banners and graffiti being hoisted on the outer boundary of Vidhan Sabha in Dharamshala, as well as the threat posed by Sikhs for Justice (SJF) regarding the announcement of June 6, 2022, as the voting date for the Khalistan Referendum in Himachal Pradesh, the DGP-HP has issued orders to field formations to remain on high alert beginning today “Sanjay Kundu, the state police chief, issued an order.

According to the directive, senior police officials have been ordered to keep a watchful eye on probable hideouts of members of the outlawed organization, including hotels. They’ve also been told to have bomb disposal teams and special forces on standby in an emergency.

Security staff protecting all critical buildings have been instructed to be alerted so that they may alert police if they see anything suspect.

Chief Minister Jairam Thakur ordered a probe when the Khalistan flags and graffiti appeared.

According to reports, an intelligence notice released on April 26 warned of such an occurrence. According to the notice, Gurupatwant Singh Pannun, the chairman of Sikhs for Justice, had written to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, claiming a flag of Sikh extremist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale with the word ‘Khalistan’ will be flown in Shimla.

It is said that Himachal Pradesh’s decision to prohibit cars bearing Bhindranwale and Khalistani flags enraged the banned organization.

“I strongly condemn the despicable act of hoisting Khalistan flags at the Assembly Complex entrance in the dead of night. Because only the winter session is conducted here, greater security precautions are required just during that time “This morning, Chief Minister Thakur tweeted in Hindi.

“This cowardly event has been carried out as a result of this, but we will not allow it. This event will be examined right away, and the perpetrators will face severe consequences. I’d want to advise those folks that if they have the bravery, they should come out in the daylight rather than at night “Another tweet was read.
