Uttar Pradesh gangster Vikas Dubey wanted in connection with the murder of eight policemen in Kanpur, was arrested from the Mahakal temple in Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning.

Ujjain collector Ashish Singh said a merchant identified Dubey as he entered the temple facility and informed security personnel. He was tracked down and when he left after taking a darshan, he was arrested. He put up resistance but finally admitted it was Dubey.

Eight police officers, including a deputy police superintendent, were ambushed in the Bikru village in the Chaubeypur area of ​​Kanpur, where they went to arrest Vikas Dubey and were shot dead from rooftops last Friday. Vikas Dubey had been on the run ever since. The gangster, who is facing some 60 criminal cases, including assassinations and attempted assassinations, was last seen in Faridabad, Haryana, and received a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh. Read in Tamil

Hours after the Bikru village murders, the police had shot dead Vikas Dubey’s maternal uncle, Prem Prakash Pandey, and his partner Atul Dubey. Both men were named in the FIR.

After Dubey’s arrest, former UP Prime Minister Akhilesh Yadav has asked the state government to release his detailed call records (CDR).
