The existence of the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron sub-variants of the coronavirus in India has been verified by the INSACOG, with one case in Tamil Nadu and another in Telangana.
The virus’s BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants are highly transmissible Omicron variants.
The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) revealed in a statement on Sunday that a 19-year-old lady in Tamil Nadu had been infected with the virus’s BA.4 sub-variant.

The patient has relatively moderate clinical signs and has received all of his vaccinations. She had no prior travel experience.
On arrival at the Hyderabad airport, a South African individual tested positive for the BA.4 sub-variant of Omicron.
An 80-year-old man from Telangana tested positive for the virus’s BA.5 sub-variant in a separate instance. He has pretty moderate clinical signs and has received all of his vaccinations. The patient has no prior travel experience.
“As a preventative step, contact tracing of BA.4 and BA.5 patients is being conducted,” the INSACOG added.
BA.4 and BA.5 are worldwide circulating sub-variants of the Omicron variant. These were initially detected early this year in South Africa and have spread to numerous other nations.
These sub-variants have not been linked to illness severity or higher hospitalization, according to the INSACOG.
