India recorded more than 2.51 lakh cases

India has recorded 2,51,209 Covid-19 cases and 627 deaths within the last 24 hours, which brought the death toll up to 4,92,327, according to the information published from the Ministry of Health on Friday (January 28, 2022). The number of active cases is 21,05,611.

A drop of 96,861 cases has been reported in the Covid-19 active caseload over 24 hours.

In addition, the country recorded 3,474,443 recovery cases today, which brings all recovered cases to 3,80,24771.

The active cases make up 5.18 percent of total infections, while the nation’s Covid-19 recovery rate is 93.60 percent.

The positivity rate for the day was recorded as 15.88 percent, whereas the weekly rate of positivity stood at 17.47 percent as per the ministry.

Furthermore, the total doses that have been administered across the country to date under the national covid-19 vaccine campaign have surpassed 164.44 crores.

On Thursday, the director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Sujeet K. Singh, stated, ” Omicron sub-variant BA.2 is more prevalent than the BA.1 variant that is prevalent in India currently. However, the director said that the BA.3 sub-variant is not identified in India as of yet.

“Earlier, the BA.1 variant was dominant among the samples collected from the travelers.

Now in community settings, we have found that the BA.2 sub-variant is gradually increasing,” Singh stated.

Singh added his belief that the Delta variant hasn’t disappeared, but it is not yet.

In discussing Covid fatalities, he noted that people who are not vaccinated or who have comorbidities belong to the group of high-risk individuals.

“Around 64 percent of those who died in Delhi were from the unvaccinated group with major comorbid population,” He added.
