India's Harnaaz Sandhu Brings Home Miss Universe Crown After 21 Years

India’s Harnaaz Sandhu Brings Home Miss Universe Crown After 21 Years.

Before Harnaaz Sandhu, only two Indians had ever won this title: Miss Universe – actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.

India’s Harnaaz Sandhu is now the new Miss Universe, 21 years after Lara Dutta won the title in 2000.

Ms. Sandhu was the representative of India on the eve of the 70th Miss Universe 2021, held in Eilat, Israel.

The 21-year-old native of Punjab took the crown, beating over Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane.

Ms. Sandhu was awarded the crown from Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico.

Before the model from Chandigarh, only two Indians had taken home the title of Miss Universe – actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000.

In response to a question about what tips she would offer female teens on how to manage the pressures they experience, a calm and composed Sandhu stated, “The biggest pressure the young people of today are facing is the need to believe in themselves and to believe that you are unique and that’s what is beautiful about you.

Stop comparing yourself to, others and instead, let’s discuss other important issues going on around the world.”

“This is the thing you have to know. Get out there, speak up for yourself because you are the person who will lead your life. You are the voice you own. My faith in myself was strong, and this is why I’m standing here this moment,” Ms. Sandhu said with grace.

Ms. Sandhu was born in India and began her pageant career at 17 years old. She was previously named Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019, and even made it into the top 12 of Femina Miss India 2019.

She has also worked in Punjabi films such as “Yaara Diyan Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange.”
